The water rate in Roselle went up to $8.05 per 1,000 gallons; the sewer rate went up to $6 per 1,000 gallons for residents in DuPage County and $3.20 per 1,000 gallons for residents in Cook County*; and the Capital Improvement Surcharge (CIS) went up to 4.80 per 1,000 gallons effective January 1.
These scheduled increases are part of a five-year rate structure established by the Village board in 2016 to fund improvements to the Village’s aging water and sewer systems. (* Roselle’s Cook County properties are in the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, and pay into that system through a combination of user rates and property taxes. Roselle’s DuPage County properties pay for sewer services through user rates only.)
In addition to a water main replacement program with an annual cost of $1 million, the Village is making over $18.9 million in improvements to the wastewater system. The Village was successful in securing a low interest state revolving loan from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) to fund the wastewater system projects. More information about the water and sewer rate structure is available on the Village’s website at www.roselle.il.us/waterrate.
