[ARCHIVED] Roselle Village Board Approves Public Safety Telecommunications Consolidation

On Monday, July 27, 2009, the Village of Roselle Board of Trustees unanimously passed an ordinance authorizing the Village to enter into an intergovernmental agreement with DuPage Public Safety Communications (DuComm) for public safety communication services.

Beginning January 1, 2010, all police and fire 911 calls and emergency dispatch operations in Roselle will be switched over to DuComm. Police and fire department staff are working with DuComm staff to provide a seamless transition, which is anticipated to be ongoing for the next several months. The overall goal of the transition is to enhance operations while ensuring that Roselle residents continue to receive the high level of service they currently receive.

The Village of Roselle maintained its own police and fire dispatching services since it formed its full time police department in 1956. "It is our intention through this reorganization and consolidation to increase services to the community while at the same time saving nearly $250,000 on an annual basis," said Roselle Police Chief James Kruger.

One expected enhancement to the move is the addition of emergency medical dispatch services (EMD). EMD is a detailed system where the telecommunicator provides first aid instruction to the caller and stays on the line until an ambulance arrives on the scene.
